Ever thought of how we persuade people in #SciComm?
& #39;Modes of persuasion& #39; was something I learned my rhetorics course at @LUSciComm, and it& #39;s something I still use everyday in my work.

Using logic backed with reason and evidence to persuade an audience.
This is a common practice in #science. You& #39;ll notice that people who spread #misinformation and #pseudoscience also use logos, and this is often achieved by cherry-picking content.
Using credibility or authority to persuade an audience.
Like logos, this is something you& #39;ll see in #STEM, where an expert in the field speaks on an issue. Ethos also applies to #misinformation, where people will say they& #39;re flat-earth or anti-vax experts.
Using emotional appeal to persuade an audience.
Pathos is probs the least used in #science. It is smtg that is beneficial in #SciComm b/c people connect better with content when it elicits an emotion. The use of fear, in particular, is how #misinformation is spread.
