1. I’ve seen many ‘hot takes’ this weekend from British people who classify themselves as being on the left about how Biden and Harris are just as evil as Trump and no good will come from Trump being removed from office.

2. Not only are these hot takes pathetic, they’re also part of the reason the left (in its widest meaning) is so out of touch, fragmented and tragically irrelevant in the day to day lives of so many or the most marginalised in the UK.

3. To suggest that Trump is the same as Biden and Harris is to do to exactly what Trump has been doing over the past four years, it’s a form of violent gaslighting and it’s a form of “both side-ing” a trade mark of the white supremacist in chief.

4. Let’s get this straight, Biden and Harris are not perfect, I don’t know anyone who believes them to be perfect. Those of us who want to see them move further to the left need to grasp that there is no movement without Trump being dumped.

5. America’s racism and bigotry didn’t start with Trump and it won’t end with Trump... HOWEVER.... Trump has unleashed terror, fear, exhaustion and deepened and mainstreamed a white supremacist hell scape and bigotry that has devastated and destroyed many, many lives.

6. The removal of Trump is on the back of the blood, sweat and tears of Black and brown women, marginalised women and people and communities of colour and working class white people and communities literally trying to find ways to breathe and stay alive.

7. I have nothing but love and respect for each of you and I’m feeling a little less terrified about the safety and wellbeing of my family and friends in the USA day to day.

8. The British left (I genuinely have no idea what it is, what it looks like and what it really wants to do) needs to hold a reckoning with itself and what it’s long term response is to the Tories catastrophic plans for our country.
