Some things I’m amazed by:
Our President-Elect has a disability. He has known tragic grief. He publicly praises his son in recovery. He values science. He mentioned transgender people in his first post-election speech. He acknowledges BIPOC organizers who ensured his victory. 1/

Our FLOTUS-Elect has a doctorate. She’s an educator who plans to continue her work from the White House. Her dissertation was on community college students. 2/
Our VP-Elect is the first woman VP. The first Black VP. The first South Asian VP. The first biracial VP. The first VP married to someone not Christian (Jewish). She’s unapologetically driven and professionally successful. 3/
There are many, many personal reasons I’m celebrating right now. Professionally, a Biden/Harris administration is also a win for science, for health care accessibility, for suicide prevention, and for higher education. 4/
It’s also a huge win for people I care about. Gay & trans colleagues, students, & friends. At-risk family who are homebound bc of the pandemic’s mismanagement. Friends with student loan & medical debt. Students on ACA health insurance. Friends in recovery. 5/
Biden/Harris are not perfect. They were not my first choices. There is still a tremendous amount of work to be done, not only from the White House, but also in our communities, to address the xenophobia, misogyny, racism, bigotry, and nationalism we’ve seen run rampant. 6/
Most acutely, the GA runoff will determine whether Mitch McConnell retains his Senate Majority Leader position in 2021. McConnell, who spent the last few months completely ignoring the millions of Americans desperate for government aid during a pandemic. 7/
Take time to celebrate. Maybe, for some, to feel mixed emotions. To recognize how much weight you’ve been carrying & let yourself grieve.
Then: keep paying attention. Donate. Volunteer. Organize. Protest. Hold the new administration accountable. We can do this together. 8/fin
