Last year I travelled to Switzerland to join a policy meeting about trans inclusion in sport. Senior reps from all the main sports were there, so was the IOC. In a room of 30+ I was the only person arguing for safety and fairness for women and girls /1
For 8 long hours I argued every point. Some were cross with me. Some dismissed me. Some told me not to speak. Some told me not to use the word male when I speak about transwomen. I carried on. Saying the things they didn't want to face up to. /2
Some refused point blank to talk with me at the break. Some wouldn't sit with me at lunch. A few (women) told me I was brave. Others (men) told me I should modify my language if I want people to listen to me. I carried on. Saying the things they didn't want to hear /3
They had never had someone in the room objecting. I made things difficult for them. They couldn't just agree a policy and go home feeling good about how woke and inclusive they were. They know we were watching them now. They know we will be holding them to account /4
I was emotionally exhausted after that meeting. I was battered from the ordeal but proud to have been the one woman in that room standing up for the truth. Nothing scares me now after that. If I can hold my own there I can hold my own anywhere /5
People tell me I'm known for my calm, factual and respectful approach to trans issues. I don't get angry. I'm too moderate for some. But have no doubt I'm driven by a steely determination that women and girls will not be overlooked. Sex matters and so do our rights /6
Watching the donations roll in over the last 28 days has been a wonderful experience for me. I've been moved by the comments & have been invigorated by your support. Thank you to everyone single one of you - large or small every donation really counts. I won't let you down ❤️/7
Amazingly with 3 hours to go we've smashed our £50K target. Please keep donating right up until the end to see how far we can get. Every ££ secures our future for longer. The more we raise the more we can do. It's as simple as that. /8
