I needed something mindless to watch but it is too early for Christmas romcoms. So I typed "Halloween Romantic" into Netflix and now am watching the Hallmark production "Harvest Moon". Let's see how bad it will get!
Oh wow! What a start! We've got an entitled rich fashion blogger whose dad is suddenly bankrupt and all that she has left is the pumpkin farm which he bought in her name. Just two hours out of the City. She is now driving up there to sell it!
This is moving towards maximum cringe factor. Small town cafe full of gossip, (formerly) rich City girl bumbling around farm falling into a huge mud puddle, then overhearing the family of the farm talk about how she is 'one of those City people' who 'don't like people like us'.
The farm family consists of the farmer, Aunt Rosie, farmer's teenage brother, and little daughter, and a whole load of dead parents.
City girl falls off a horse and generally does NOT like being on the farm! She wants to sell, sell, sell!!!

But apparently the farm isn't worth much.

City girl might have to get a job!!!
But now she has a plan!

She will give the farm a make over!!!

The farm family is not immediately on board. Why should they help her sell it more profitability? But they are promised perpetual residence rights on the farm.

City girl immediately moves into the guest room!
The farmer is plotting how to get her to quit by showing her the hard farm life from its finest sides.
But first sparks are starting to fly!!!
Breakfast is not going well! She rejects Aunt Rosie's stack of pancakes! Too many carbs...

Farmer is starting to give her silly tasks. She is getting soaked by the irrigation system cause she stepped on a pipe while taking selfies.
Farm live is going great!
Bonding with the farm family is in full swing. Talking about dead parents and wife, helping the teenager get a date.

Oho! City girl and farmer have touched hands while re-potting pumpkin seedlings!
While I appreciate the romantic tension, I do have to say that whatever they are re-potting, it is not a pumpkin plant. Same goes for the plants in the field. Also, why are they re-potting pumpkin seedlings for next year? Pretty sure pumpkins are direct sown in the spring, right?
Now City girl is irresponsible with the ancient tractor and causes a small accident. Farmer is worried sick for her!! She could have gotten hurt! She does not belong here! He feels responsible for endangering her so he sends her away! She should not be on a farm!!
A case of jealousy has crept in! Of course! We were missing that!
But the situation got resolved! And now they are riding together on one horse!! Both! On one horse!
A kiss!! In the barn! While the rain splatters outside! Oh, how cheesy!
City girl is giving the entire village facials and makeovers in preparation for the upcoming community ball.
Now they are cuddling! Sitting against some hay bales under the fullest moon of year. The Harvest Moon!

Farmer is opening up about how he felt after his wife and parents died, and how it might be time to move on, and how he might sometimes need a little help. City girl's help!
Okay, so we are done here, right? No! There are 20 min left! So we need: Trouble in paradise! City girl's City friend is visiting! She does NOT like the farm life. She is ready to stage an intervention and get City girl back to the City! Instead they go to the community dance.
Now everybody is slow dancing. City girl + Farmer. Teenage brother + his crush from the cafe. Farmhand who got a makeover + her husband. So romantic, such slow camera moves from one to the to the other. Hach!
Oh oh! Here it is! Trouble in Paradise! City friend has overheard village girls gossiping about how farmer has been giving City girl deliberately shitty jobs to get her to quit so he can buy back farm for cheap. City friend is ready to use this information to kick off some shit!
City girl is disappointed! She was betrayed! He has been trying to cheat her out of her (?) farm!!! Bit of a rich interpretation, but okay.

City friend: "I told you I didn't like these people! Let's get you out of here! Back to the City! Where you know you can't trust anyone!"
Cue crying half-orphaned farmer's daughter. City girls have woken her up when they came back from the party discussing what happened. Crying orphan "Why are you upset City girl? Is it me? Did I do something? Is it my daddy?"
Oh wow, now they are going for it.

"Your daddy is a good guy. A really good guy. But sometimes grown ups do dumb things."
"Then I never want to grow up!
I made this for you."
Crying orphan hands over drawing with Herself, City girl, and farmer all pictured together as a family.
Oh so tragic! Saying goodbye to crying motherless child and crying Aunt Rosie, who was also in on this HORRENDOUS betrayal of letting her feel how tough farm life can be. City friend has her bags. They are ready to leave it all behind and drive back to the City where they belong!
