This is now my academic fantasy:
Biden actually follows through on his pledge to make community college free. Enrollment spikes, spurring massive hiring to cover burgeoning classes.
Because many PhDs are out of work, CCs are able to hire top tier talent, which results in many high quality programs and increased interest in a wide range of majors.
Increased accessibility encourages more students to pursue 4 year degrees and beyond, fueling an enrollment spike at 4 year colleges and research universities nationwide.
Academic programs find themselves once again hiring, and the healthy job market encourages schools to pay PhDs what they are worth.
More and more students learn to appreciate the value of humanities, even if they major in other disciplines. The electorate becomes generally more educated, empathetic, and circumspect and we never find ourselves back in the hell we just endured for the past 4 years.
Hey, we can dream, right?
