In WI, Biden won a narrow victory. While that’s no small thing, it is about the only thing that went well for DEMs in WI.

The state's Republican Party and most local party organizations achieved turnout levels and performance that is historic.

One question being asked is “How can Biden win nationally but the GOP had such a good night in congress and in legislatures?”

Part of the answer is Joe did even better than normal in already blue areas – but Trump continued to dominate swing areas (like Brown Cty WI).

Another part of the answer lies with ticket splitters. If you follow this thread, I’ll show you some precinct-level data that illustrates the splitting. It also shows just how good a night it was for the GOP.

Start with this: In our 8 congressional districts, the GOP hit vote totals never seen before and won a clear majority of the vote (NOTE: all districts were contested).

Here is some municipal level data showing how poorly DEM candidates performed in Waukesha cty. compared to Biden. The Republican candidates and campaigns deserve their share of the credit for this.

In the state legislature, Republicans also won a clear majority of votes cast (both in senate and assembly).

In the State Senate the GOP picked up 2 seats. They held every GOP seat, defeated a DEM incumbent, and won a classic 50/50 seat in Green Bay.

This result in Green Bay is stunning. Obama twice carried this district easily. The 30th district is Catholic and blue-collar and was an “open seat” on election night.

In the 10th, the GOP defeated a DEM incumbent in a 60% to 40% landslide. The DEMs favorite hobby in WI is claiming “gerrymandering” every time they lose a race. What they won’t tell you is that the 10th is bordered by Minnesota and has barely changed since the 1980s.

In the Assembly Republicans won the 51st Assembly District – a district that Obama carried by more than 20 points and Hillary and Biden carried too.
Here is a sample result from that district:

This result illustrates the impact of ticket splitters. It took only a dozen splitters to flip this village from 47% GOP for president to 52% GOP for assembly.

Biden carried the 51st Assembly district, and so did the GOP assembly candidate.

Republicans also nearly won a strong DEM seat in Superior. This is another district Obama carried by 20 points. In 2020 the DEM incumbent in the Assembly only won it by 139 votes.

Again, note the under-performance by the Democrat candidate when compared to Biden:

And since the world revolves around Minocqua, here is the president vs assembly comparison from my hometown.

11% of Biden voters did not vote for the DEM candidate for assembly.

Final note on WI: This impressive showing by the WI Republican party, local parties, and candidates was in the face being massively outspent by Democrats.
