I had dinner last night w my friend who is an immigrant rights organizer & we concluded that immigration lawyers need to recognize they can’t just think they do their work separate from organizers. They need to learn to support and work in collaboration with organizers.
This is an international struggle for working class people, basic human rights, and is fundamentally anti US imperialism. Being a lawyer in it all doesn’t change the nature of the struggle, and people will continue to fight with or without lawyers.
This shit predates “immigration lawyers”. We’re just the latest iteration of a short-sighted solution to a long-term struggle.

Lawyers must learn to work collaboratively with people who have been doing the work, are doing the work, and will continue to do the work.
And being a lawyer is just having one set of skill sets. Just one. We are limited in what we know, what we can accomplish, and what we can even envision, so how about we recognize that about ourselves?
A little humility and hard work, that’s all.
