Meanwhile in Canada politicians continue to want disabled people dead. Sorry I judge motives by actions and results.
1. Instead of liveable incomes for disabled ppl on benefits, Ford Govt hires fraud investigators https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.5791196?__twitter_impression=true
2. LTC. That it exists and that it exists in way that is causing majority of Covid19 deaths. That in life and death residents are denied proper care and dignity. https://globalnews.ca/news/7449149/maples-personal-care-home-covid-19-wfps/amp/?__twitter_impression=true
3. That this is not new info. In fact it’s last century info. It’s well documented that people do better outside of these places. None of this is about not knowing. https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.5791159?__twitter_impression=true
And yet this has been the distract, delay & deny game Liberals have played:
A. Don’t mention disabled ppl at all at outset even while protocols are being drafted to deny them healthcare & leave them to deny. https://twitter.com/mssinenomine/status/1325498280457904128
B. When you can no longer avoid mention of disabled people bc disabled ppl - mostly poor - have made it impossible to do so & a few journalists start asking questions, set up an advisory council, stocked with many reliably good crips and led by a wealthy non-disabled man.
C. Ignore disabled poor people entirely. Don’t disaggregate data. Ignore intersections of race and ignore policy necessary for proper pandemic support (these are provincial and federal - and also municipal failures).
D. For months federal Liberals respond to every query and demand by pointing to their advisory council they appointed (similar party faves criteria to Senate appointments). The head off this council flogs the DTC as the solution - glosses by years of documented failure.
E. As disabled people hit the news more & more pointing out that they are the ones who are high risk and who have been ignored, govt announces one time payment of $600 & the chair of the advisory council flogs tf out of it. Writes articles praising govt & bastardizes mutual care
F. When disabled people point out no, it is too little and DTC sucks and will not be available to most, the Chair & Govt tell them & media ‘hush now, it’s fine’ and deny, deflect.
G. Now when failure is undeniable they position themselves as disappointed & trying.
G. The Federal Liberals, the provinces, and the Chair of the Covid disability advisory council have done nothing but tell disabled people that the things they were accurately portraying & saying were not true while fully knowing them to be true.
5. In countries where they more accurately capture disability and have disaggregated data - such as the UK - the majority of deaths have been disabled people. I see no reason to assume similar would not be true here if we captured such data. But we don’t. Why do you suppose?
There are many more reasons why I said what I said. They have long failed to act to do simple minor things like change the building code so we’re not building an inaccessible future if exclusion.
But I need to take a break. Resume this thread later - feel free to add to it.
