Seeing a lot of headcanons about characters with chronic pain (*cough cough dabi*) & as someone who lives with it here is some general information that you can use however you want!!!

*Disclaimer* I am not an expert of chronic pain, these are all about my personal experiences.
First of all: It is there 24/7 25/8 it never goes away babey.
I have had one completely pain free moment in the past 10 years that lasted 4 hours because I got a hold of oxy & I cried & got very high.
Even if they’re not saying it, the pain is probably there.
Now, for some types of pain there are things you can do to lessen flair ups! For me & my jaw issues it’s avoiding certain foods, not talking very much, avoiding smiling for too long, taking ibuprofen first thing in the morning (after food), heat, ice, massage, cbd, etc.
If your character has chronic pain they will have tried it All. None of it makes it go away completely but sometimes you find a regimin that ~kinda ~sorta ~maybe helps. There will be limitations to their ability and small differences to their lifestyle in order to cope.
A few things ppl w/chronic pain can often experience (for me it comes & goes w/the wind):

brain fog (its hard to concentrate when ur in pain)

Mood swings & a lack of patience (my mood swings tend towards anger bursts)

Spikes in pain that leave u unable to do anything at all
People of all ages, genders, professions, walks of life will Not believe you. They will tell you you look fine or are too young or that thing isn’t real or whatever weird excuse they wanna use to invalidate that pain. Many doctors won’t understand.
Maybe ur character is different but I find that most ppl I know with chronic pain do Not have access to anything more than over the counter pills. You literally just have to learn to live with it. Or get pills illegally (& unless they have an actual dealer it will be on & off)
Okay i cant think of anything else I’ll add if/when i can think of stuff
