it’s irresponsible and harmful to refuse to interrogate the contradictions in your politics
i’m definitely not saying everyone has to be at the same point in their learning process but if you’re not consistently asking yourself some questions about what you believe and why??
“If I say I believe and support survivors do my politics reflect that?” “Have I ever berated a survivor for choosing to not vote for two men accused of sexual assault?”
“If I have acab in my bio does it make sense to praise a prosecutor?” “If I spend all summer protesting to defund the police does it make sense to celebrate a man who is dedicated to giving more funds to police departments?”
“If I regularly tweet protect trans women in all caps does it make sense to silence trans people speaking on Kamala’s record of harming the trans community?”
“If I say I support sex work does it make sense to ignore sex workers who were criminalized and endangered by Kamala’s actions?”
“If I want to be mindful of my privilege, do my politics reflect care for lives in countries other than america that are endangered by every us president?”
“If I believe in ‘holding politicians accountable’ have I ever tried to silence people for critiquing politicians?”
“If I know that the most marginalized people’s conditions do not change under a new president, what am I doing outside of electoral politics?”
“If I believe there’s ‘more work to be done’ who do I expect to do that work?”
“If I say the system is completely corrupt am I pushing myself to imagine and organize for a new system or am I comfortable settling?”
“If I voted to ‘protect the marginalized’ am I listening when marginalized people say they’re still in danger?”
“If I am committed to being anti-imperialist, how is that in conflict with idolizing AOC and Bernie?”
