Let me have my time to celebrate the weight coming off my shoulders, the fear that I felt when looking at the election, and the worry I consistently felt at what another Trump presidency would be like.

Let me celebrate eloquent speeches, shout outs to communities who do the silent work, a Black and Asian FEMALE VP, the fact that Black women were praised, and the calmness I felt for once in 4 years.

Shit we know there is still work to do. We know both candidates have flaws and aren’t perfect, we know they have problematic pasts, we know that the fighting won’t stop. We know all this but want to have some joy.

There is no reason to ruin the first amounts of joy we have felt in 4 years. No reason. We will get back to work. We will work to hold them accountable for their promises. We will work work and work. We will continue to work tirelessly for everyone.

We will continue to fight. But for now don’t be joy killers. Ain’t no point, the world is tough enough. For this Sunday I am choosing joy.
