Now that celebration tweets are winding down, I see some folks grappling with the not good bits of Biden and Harris today.

I want to share how I think about things as they stand and also pose a question...
Many of us voted to save democracy in America. It looks like we succeeded.

Some of those votes were from people holding their nose and checking the box, because they have justifiable concerns about Biden and Harris’ past actions, policy, or statements.
I think that criticism is fine (more below). But there’s never going to be a perfect candidate, because there are no perfect people.

IMO criticisms at this point should be coupled with requests.

Knowing everything you know about our situation today, what do you want to happen? https://twitter.com/operaqueenie/status/1293316518281846784
Because we know their imperfections, we can make a more sound judgement of who they are.

Their track records help us understand how they might make decisions in the future, but it doesn’t mean that they’re incapable of doing something different.
It means that we can be more effective at holding them accountable. At pushing them toward the outcomes we want.

Part of what I’m trying to understand about the current conversation is what a hypercritical person wants right now.
If it’s some form of justice or penance, what does that look like, considering the other work to be done here...?

We’ve got covid, a depressed economy, a climate crisis, crumbling institutions, harmful policy, and global reputation in the shitter.

So what do you want to happen?
This is the point of a project where I would tell people: do not bring me a problem unless you are also thinking about a way to solve it.

I’m full on problems. I need more solutions.
