Ride-hailing can and should work for everyone in our city. But right now Uber/Lyft are driving a race to the bottom, undermining our shared goals for a livable, resilient city.

How has the growth of Uber/Lyft has impacted our communities?

We know they increase congestion and pollution, use public spaces without paying their fair share, make travel less safe and accessible, and continue to lose money while exploiting workers.

But Uber/Lyft won’t tell the whole story.

"The data that app companies provided for the study did not include the amount of time drivers spend "cruising" w/o passengers — a crucial component of understanding the true scale & impact of ride hailing" - Juan Sotes @AtmosphericFund
What does it mean for drivers?

"Flexibility doesn't mean you're going to make any money" – ride-hailing driver Earla Phillips ( @earlwithana).

For a sustainable Toronto, we need employers to provide jobs that allow drivers to support themselves, not fuel a race to the bottom.
In California, Uber/Lyft and allies broke spending records to rewrite the law to protect their business model. In Toronto, we can expect them to do the same.

We need to work together on a solution that works for everyone.

We believe the mobility apps of the future can work in a system that protects our communities, provides quality jobs and better mobility for residents. We need to help #TOPoli create policies that reflect the public interest, not just the interest of Uber/Lyft investors.
