Centrism did not fail; it has never been really tried.
We need an honest centrism, a centrism not beholden to special interests.
We need a centrism that speaks to real Americans. Centrism that can speak to Main Street as well as Wall Street.
Let's be honest: Centrism has suffered for a long time with a lack of transparency. We need a transparent centrism, one accountable to every donor, not just big donors
Centrism must protect investments, but it might acknowledge that our most precious investments are in human capital, in our workers, whether they be fireable at will employees, or independent contractors subject to terms of service.
Centrism is radically pragmatic, willing to make deals with *anyone* to further the common good. A centrist will make a deal with QAnon if that is what takes. #RadicalPragmatism
Centrism is not "extremely online." While centrism is on social media to keeps its ear to the ground, and to give as good as it gets, it fashions it policies on the basis of *data* supplied by think tanks and consultants.
Getting back to workers, centrists believe in the power of code. Centrism envisions an entire generation learning Javascript and coding their own webpages as they navigate the digital future.
Centrism believes in science and, in particular, behavioral economics. A true centrist government would rework the country's choice architecture to nudge America to the Pareto frontier.
Centrism does not vilify the market, but it does not worship it either. Centrism believes in market failure. It just happens so rarely that we can safely ignore it.
Centrists believe that true neutrality is attainable. We report, you decide. Reporting both sides promotes trust. Sharing ideas, especially only among those in your network, leads to rational beliefs as everyone reckons with the other side's arguments. #Marketplaceofideas
Centrism stands for judicial independence. Congress must stay out of the courts. Courts apply the law; they call balls and strikes. While the Supreme Court is now owned by the Republican Party, centrists fear that expanding the Court will politicize the judiciary.
Centrism would be a social and political movement dedicated to everything I set out in this thread. True centrism has never been tried. True centrism is cool. Pragmatism is cool. Getting results, not signaling virtue, is cool. Let's give it a try. /fin
