the obsession with representational politics has always & will continue to stifle actual critique
y’all can say some nonsense about “holding people accountable once they’re in office” but let’s be honest here, the only people who are going to be holding Biden & Harris accountable are the same organizers who have been challenging them this entire election cycle
many people pushing for this ticket will be very comfortable settling back into their liberal fairytale land, instead of reckoning with the fact that with a former prosecutor for VP, any meaningful steps towards ending incarceration will likely be *more* difficult going forward
anyway I lived in Oakland and that woman is viscerally hated by every Black person I met who’s from the area, she locked up so much of their community with a fucking smile. and yet people are happy cause there’s an AKA in the White House???? 🥴
. @malcolmaime put it well yesterday: Biden & Harris will be harder to critique because everyone has associated so many of this country’s violences with Trump specifically, and are going to weaponize his absence to silence criticisms (“well we could still be dealing with trump!”)
more info about Kamala’s adamant focus on prosecuting drug crimes, specifically marijuana (aka locking up mostly Black people) during her time as district attorney of SF and attorney general of California https://twitter.com/malcolmaime/status/1325288491522035712?s=20
