Thoughts about feelings: a midnight thread 🌔✹
When I was a teenager and absolutely drowning in the overwhelming feelings of what I thought was my first love, someone told me it gets easier as you get older. What kind of bullshit statement is that?
If anything, the older you get the scarier it gets. Though it feels like the end of the world, there’s nothing riding on your feelings at that age.
My feelings 7-8 years later are no less overwhelming, they feel heavier some days since there’s more at stake.
I think what I’m trying to say is that I can’t discount my past or current feelings, since they were real at the time. A ‘crush’ feels both similar and different at 15, 18 and 22, and I can only assume they will at later points, too.
Disclaimer: this mess refers to no one in particular - right now I’m working on myself. This thread is sponsored by Billy Joel, Joni Mitchell and a friend whose writings about love are so palpable and moving that they make me reconsider every single emotion I’ve ever had. (End)
