Thoughts about feelings: a midnight thread

When I was a teenager and absolutely drowning in the overwhelming feelings of what I thought was my first love, someone told me it gets easier as you get older. What kind of bullshit statement is that?
If anything, the older you get the scarier it gets. Though it feels like the end of the world, thereâs nothing riding on your feelings at that age.
My feelings 7-8 years later are no less overwhelming, they feel heavier some days since thereâs more at stake.
I think what Iâm trying to say is that I canât discount my past or current feelings, since they were real at the time. A âcrushâ feels both similar and different at 15, 18 and 22, and I can only assume they will at later points, too.
Disclaimer: this mess refers to no one in particular - right now Iâm working on myself. This thread is sponsored by Billy Joel, Joni Mitchell and a friend whose writings about love are so palpable and moving that they make me reconsider every single emotion Iâve ever had. (End)
