As more pixel artists enter the #NFT space, here’s a thread on #pixelart. Collectors, this might be of interest to you. Pixel artists who are not yet in the space, it might be of interest too. Note: contains generalisations and personal opinions. 1/

There is a lot of varied pixelart already in the #NFT space. What you’ll see now are more pixel artists like me - artists who made a name for themselves outside the space bringing their art to NFT. The quality of some of these artists is mindblowingly high. 2/

You will see new types of pixelart. Important point: pixelart is a medium, not a genre. See something you love? Or hate? That’s just 1 type of pixelart. The rest will offer something different. The amount of styles in play is vast. Find what you love. 3/

Next really important point: great pixelart is usually SLOW. For many of us, it’s like building Lego. It’s incredibly time-consuming. Output is slow. Number of pieces possible will often be very low. This means two things - 4/

1 - a good pixel artist will assign a high value to their work. I can see why it would be good to offer cheap pieces to get established but, even just with work hours, a good pixel artist needs to value their work. Prices may look high to you. 5/

2 - Scarcity. If you buy a big pixel art piece, it will not be one of 365 minted that year. Scarcity is built in. My last New Years images took 80-100 hours work each. I can only make one of these a year. Great pixel art will likely always be very rare. 6/ #NFT #NFTart #cryptoart
What I’ve learned about the space in my short time tells me that some pixel artists might not be suited. Others will and will do really well. Do your homework on the artist. See what they’ve made. Check the output. Note how prolific (or not) they are. 7/ #NFT #NFTart #cryptoart
A caveat - I think many of the pixel artists who suit NFT might not have much client work. Why? Time. I did client work a few years back and cut most of it out in 2019. Client work is often hard to justify depending on the style of pixel art you make. 8/ #NFT #NFTart #cryptoart
A pixel artist like me now picks who they work with. I’ve worked with Gunship, The Midnight, Waveshaper etc and will again for the love of it. I’ve made videos for bigger clients (DJ Snake, 12M views) but I don’t do that now. I say no to work every single week. 9/ #NFT #NFTart
Many pixel artists I think are suited to make perfect NFT work do it for the art, not as a job. They express themselves through it. They experiment. Push boundaries. If you don’t see a long client list, do not let that put you off as a collector. Check the work. 10/ #NFTart #NFT
I’d just say get to know it by spending time with pixelart. There are no rights and wrongs but some artists are way up there. I hope that collectors gain an eye for that. There will be some amazing new pixel art and artists coming to the space. Enjoy pixels! End/ #NFT #NFTart
