Did you know a common mistake is not applying a face mask to clean skin. Your face is supposed to be cleansed before applying a face mask, otherwise you’re layering your mask on top of dirt and bacteria which can hinder the skins ability to properly absorb the masks ingredients.
Additionally you run the risk of trapping dirt and pushing it further into your skin. Another common mistake, is using masks that aren’t suited for your skin type. Similarly to moisturisers and cleansers, you need to pick your masks based on your skin type.
There is a common suggestion that because clay masks are drying, you shouldn’t wash your face before application, I disagree. Firstly, you should be checking the formulation of your clay mask - many ingredients can be included to lessen the drying effect. Secondly,...
You should be hydrating your skin after a clay mask anyway, I use a sheet mask then follow up with sunscreen (am) or a moisturiser (pm). I picked clay masks as an example because that’s the most popular type of mask but other masks have their own nuisances.
For example, you should still use a moisturiser after a sheet mask or not exfoliate before an exfoliating or peel mask.
Make sure to moisturise your face after regardless of the mask, and remember oil does not hydrate the skin. Also use sunscreen!
