I woke up to a few tweets like these, and y’all know I’ll never shy away from a good teaching moment, so let’s talk about it!

I have NO problem being black. I love it. However, I think in times like this, it’s important to address the discourse that comes with being mixed. Why? https://twitter.com/ryan_heyer1962/status/1325318414668357632">https://twitter.com/ryan_heye...
Because we weren’t legally allowed to exist until 1967 (Loving v Virginia). We were always here, of course, but were never fully recognized and never allowed to occupy both/all spaces. People had to choose one or the other. The first time I saw a “2 or more” box was in 2013!
Everyone when I grew up was always simply “black” or “white”. NO ONE was recognizing that in between space, or the struggles that come with existing in “no man’s land” so to speak. It’s just something people didn’t address.
So to see people at the highest level of society recognize and identify as multiple races is HUGE. That doesn’t mean I don’t like being black, or don’t like black people or whatever y’all are saying in the mentions. I’m just pointing out this is A BIG DEAL! Representation matters
That being said, I was so overwhelmed by the positivity on my threads last night and I really really appreciated it. I actually cried a little out of joy because it’s so rare to see folks uplifting black and mixed women. That really touched my soul and I thank you guys for thathttps://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="💕" title="Zwei Herzen" aria-label="Emoji: Zwei Herzen">
Also I’ve realized I have several grammatical errors so please have grace & forgive me, I did this right when I woke up so I wouldn’t forget to, but I also was running on three brain cells at that point https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😂" title="Gesicht mit Freudentränen" aria-label="Emoji: Gesicht mit Freudentränen">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😭" title="Laut schreiendes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Laut schreiendes Gesicht">
