There has been misleading noise lately from certain Conservative Councillors concerning enforcement cameras on Warwick, Meadway, Fox Lane in the LTNs so here are some facts - facts that the Tories already know but choose to deceive residents because it suits their agenda
(1/8)
The enforcement cameras were requested by the London Ambulance Service at design stage in order to provide agreed unhindered access routes through the LTNs. We continue to regularly liaise with the incredible LAS and all emergency services and listen to their feedback.

The filters are clearly marked with the ‘no motor vehicles’ sign alongside a camera sign. These signs are in the Highway Code and if drivers don’t understand them then it may be time for a refresher course.

The fines from the cameras go some small way towards paying Enfield Council’s £11 million bill for the wonderful Freedom Pass and other concessionary travel for the elderly and disabled in our borough.

We are also investigating whether we can use some of the revenue to fund further cameras in our popular School Streets schemes should they become permanent pending consultation. These schemes provide safety for children at the school gates.

Interestingly a large proportion of the FPNs are to non-Enfield residents which goes to suggest (but not yet prove) that this is through traffic cutting through the borough's residential neighbourhoods.
(6/8)
In the case of Warwick Road, 73% of FPNs have been issued to out-of-borough vehicles.
(Meadway 47%, Fox Lane 44%)

On a personal note I’d be fine if the cameras issued zero penalty charge notices meaning drivers are obeying the law and not putting nearby pedestrians who may crossing roads in danger by ignoring road signs. Cyclists are also at risk from drivers ignoring road signs.
