So here we go then. Edinburgh's public tramway system, 1870-closure in 1956. Horse, cable and electric. It's quite amazing how quickly it grew or was converted between different power systems, and even more shocking how quickly it was closed.
Point to note, the system was not run down/clapped out by the war. Maintenance was actually *better* than usual during the war and it was in a better shape at the end than at the beginning. It was deliberately run down after the war as a political decision.
