NARAK CHATURDASHI & BALI PRATIPADA

We all know about Diwali and Bhai duj, but Narak Chaturdashi and Bali Pratipada are equally important hence making this thread before Diwali

Bhagwan Vishnu had deceitfully taken away the Kingdom of Bali and given it to Indra.
He established Báli in Pataal lok and agreed that he would stay with Báli. It is believed that demons freely roam on the night of Kartik Amavasya. This is also known as Kaumidi tithi.

In Bhavishya Puraan it is clearly mentioned about which devta should be worshipped on this day.
On the day of Kartik Chaturdashi(नरक चतुर्दशी) falling in Krishna Paksh, our endeavour should be to remove the fear of Narak from our minds. Encircle the chaff flowers or chichda around your head and repeating the various names of Yum(Mrityu, Antak, Kaal etc).
Light a Yum deepak(यम दिप) to escape Narak. Worship and light lamps amd Deep at temples of Brahma, Vishnu Mahesh, Ponds, Wells, etc.

On the day of Bali Prtipada after bathing one should perform Tarpan to Pitar's and donate cash and other things to the worthy.
The whole festivity is to honour Bäli. Cleaning and painting the houses, decorating it with festoons and flowers. Important thing is to do these with clear mind and a bright smile. Evening time or Pradosh kaal is meant for lighting a series of lamps and diya's.
This lighting makes the atmosphere dosh free and makes the demons run away. In olden days the Kings were supposed to be doing the Báli pujan for betterment of his praja. He had to perform an elaborate system of Puja by putting up welcome doors or Margapali.
Actually this welcome toran is auspicious for all. It brings about prosperity to your clan.

We worship Ganesh Lakshmi on Diwali day. But on Bali Pratipada, As per scripture a statue of Báli along with Vindhyavali should be established and they should be worshipped by
offering dhoop, deep and naivedya. This mantra should be repeated while worshipping them-
बलिराज नमस्तुभ्यं विरोचन सुत प्रभो।
भविष्येन्द्रसुराराते पूजेयं प्रतिगुह्याताम्॥

Tying white rice grains on his bed and donate things for his benefit. Donating money after puja is also a
part of the ritual. This takes away the the forthcoming difficulties of your life.
कु word indicates Prithvi and मुदी stands for happiness. There is joy all over the Prithvi, therefore it is known as Kaumudi festival.
Remain happy the whole day long in order to pave way for happiness awaiting you.
