Part 3
(49) After mentioning the statements of Ahlus-Sunnah wa Jamā’ah regarding Allāh being over His Throne, Hāfidh Ibn Hajr says: „Then how can you not accept that which the three generations [Sahaba, Tabi’īn, Tabi’ut Tabi’īn] were agreed upon?..
(50) …They were the best generations, as has been attested by the bringer of the Sharī’ah [the Messenger ﷺ].“
Fathul Bāri [13/407-408].
(51) Imām Mālik bin Anas [d. 179H] said: „Allāh, the Mighty and Majestic, is over the Heaven [over His Throne], and His knowledge is everywhere. Nothing escapes His knowledge.“
Masāil al-Imām Ahmad li Ibn Dawūd [page 353 with a Sahīh Isnād].
(52) Imām al-Humaydi [d. 219 H] said:
„And the Sunnah according to us is…that one says: „The Most Beneficent [Allāh] rose over the Throne [in a manner that befits His Majesty].“ [20:5], and whoever…
(53) ... claims otherwise is a Mu’adtal [denier of the Names and Attributes of Allāh] Jahmī.“
Usūl as-Sunnah lil Humaydi [2/361 at the end of his Musnad]
(54) Adh-Dhahabi reports, that Imām at-Tabarāni [d. 360H] wrote the chapter heading in his book „as-Sunnah“ as: „Chapter about what has come regarding the Istiwā of Allāh over His Throne, and that He is seperate and distinct from His creation.“
Kitāb al-Arsh li Dhahabi [2/404]
(55) Imām Abu Zakariyyah Yahya bin Ammār as-Sachtiyani [d. 444H] said: „We do not say as the Jahmiyyah say, that He [Allāh] is in every place and that He is mixed with every thing, or that we do not know where He is. Rather He is with His Divine Essence [zhāt] over the Throne…
(56) …and His knowledge encompasses everything. His Knowledge, Hearing, Sight and Power reaches everything, and this is the meaning of: „…and He is with you wherever you are. And Allah, of what you do, is Seeing.“ [57:4], and He is with His Divine Essence over the Throne…
(57) as He, Glory be to Him, said, and as His Messenger [ﷺ] said.“
Kitāb al-Arsh li Dhahabi [2/445-446]
(58) Allamah Ma’mar bin Ahmad bin Zyad al-Asfahāni [d. 418H] said:
„And Allāh, the Mighty and Majestic, is over His Throne, without a „how“ [that we can describe] [Kayf], without likening Him to the creation [Tashbīh]…
(59) and without averting this from its apparent meaning [Ta’wīl]. The Istiwā is known [in the language], the „how“ is not know to us, believing in it is obligatory, rejecting it is disbelief [Kufr]…
(60).. And Allāh is separate and distinct from His creation, and the creation is separate and distinct from Him, there is no Hulūl [Allāh incarnating in the creation], no type of intermixing, for Allāh is One and He is separate and distinct from His creation,…
(61) …He is One and in no need of His creation, His knowledge is everywhere and no place is free from His knowledge.“
al-Hujjah fi Bayān al-Mahajjah wa Sharh Aqīdah Ahlus-Sunnah li Ibn al-Qāsim al-Asfahāni [1/232 with a Sahīh Isnād]
