Remembrance Sunday has got a lot more 'celebratory' in my lifetime. The industrialised destruction of millions of human beings in the contest between imperial powers that was WWI is being recast as "defending freedom".
Of course, the bind is that *if* Remembrance Sunday is about remembering those who "defended our freedoms" it explicitly excludes all the soldiers who have died in other conflicts.
Did a Twitter search for "sacrifice" and "freedom" and it very much looks like this is the new consensus in the popular mind.
I *will* remember, today. I will not forget. I will not erase the misery, destruction, and murder of war, a crime that we should always seek to avoided. Not will I erase the politics of war and disrespect the *victims* by transforming wars into fairy tales.
