emancipation of Africa when it comes to international trade and scares the crap out of the Washington and Paris. Nigeria and the United States used to have a special relationship. We were closer to Washington than the United Kingdom. We modelled our system of governance on

that of the United States. Nigeria was America's biggest trading partner on the continent. Nigerian soldiers and U.S Marinea fought side to side in Somalia. When the United States abandoned its former colony Liberia, it was Nigeria who came to the aid of Monrovia when the world

abandoned Liberia. Both President Bush and President Clinton paid multiple visits to Nigeria. In fact no other US president in the last 50 years has equalled the contribution of Republican President George W. Bush. He will be remembered for making the most consequential

intervention through the provision of antiretroviral drugs at a cost of about $80billion, which saved about 13million lives, mostly in Africa. When the Nigerian Air Force announced plans to auction its fleet of MiG-21s President Bush offered to sell Nigeria used F-16s..

...sadly our incredibly corrupt or incompetent or both turned down this offer. Instead we spent a quater of a billion on Chinese MiG-21 clones. The significance of this however is that Bush offered Nigeria F-16s. Let that sink in. The mutual respect and friendship was there.

Bill Clinton was Special guest when Eko Atlantic was proposed. Everything came crumbling under the Obama administration. Nigerians have natural affirnity to the Republican party because we share similar conservative values, like family, religion etc

Its sad what has come of this relationship. China however is taking advantage of the thaw by cementing its relationship with Nigeria via infrastructure and defence.

All of Africa need to rally round Mgozi Okonjo Iweala. This is our very last chance to level the playing field
