question for those who believe ole has no future at man united - why whenever he appears under pressure do the players get a result for him? doesn't it show how the dressing room feels about him? as opposed to the dressing room's reaction to when mourinho was nearing the sack?
because the players were blamed when mourinho was fired. it was said they no longer wanted to play for him, which can't be said for ole, right? again, i don't think solskjaer is necessarily the man who gets manchester united back to the top, but something has to be said for this.
my theory is this: the lack of consistency, the perceived lack of effort and drive, is a result of the enormous burden that comes with playing for arguably the biggest franchise in football. you all know my feelings about maguire, but he said it well yesterday.
he spoke about united being the most talked about club in the world and how that does get to certain players from time to time. the expectations they need to live up to are unbelievably huge, and many don't handle it very well.
he said the negativity does creep into the training ground, players feel the weight of the world on their shoulders. i'd liken it to somebody trying to inherit the no. 7 jersey at the club.
because of best, cantona, beckham and ronaldo, that shirt is heavy, and thus wearing AND performing well in it requires metal. that's what we're seeing with the entire squad - they've inherited one of the most successful club names in english history and are simply struggling.
this isn't an excuse, but since united's issues often seem deeper than just football, it's worth considering. it's going to be a long time before the expectations the squad's predecessors set don't weigh on them.
i think we're the fools for complaining about every decision, every signing, every manager. imagine kendrick lamar selling the rights to his name, catalogue and act to some random entertainer who we must now enjoy as kendrick lamar. it's like bro, you're not him.
