So, clearly I get being obsessed/intense about stuff.

However, I’m curious to see what others think about an NT 8 almost 9 year old spending all their free time in front of a screen...playing video games, watching YouTube, etc.
I adopted a family for Christmas and I planned on getting the child in the family a few toys through clearance shopping, but the mom says he doesn’t really like toys.

I’m told his main interests are fortnite and sports and every other interest involves some type of screen.
I know how important education is, especially when you’re from a rough city and don’t have the same opportunities to be exposed to things like traveling, a good education, expensive extra curricular activities, etc.
So, I’m bothered by it because I wonder if the amount of time he spends playing video games, etc. is a result of his environment and a lack of exposure.

Toys are expensive. YouTube is free.
Do you think it’s good to allow kids unlimited screen time?
Also, what type of things would you buy a kid who’s obsessed with video games to broaden their horizons?

He’s getting v-bucks, fortnite action figures, books (one on how to code video games among others) Minecraft LEGO, and STEM kits.
I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around how an 8 year old doesn’t like toys.

Heck I’m grown and I’d buy myself a LEGO set if they weren’t so expensive.
