Been thinking a lot about Anakin Skywalker, def the Gen Z archetype. Gifted/talented wunderkind who joins the dark side after being forced to choose between a Jedi military coup or sith dictatorship, breaks his chastity vows, and even perpetrates several mass killings
revenge of the sith is, despite the hamminess, a great movie. shows how civil war creates circumstances that almost inevitably lead to great evil, while still showing evil to be a conscious act of the will
The good guys to Anakin are the Jedi, but he grows sympathetic to the dark side only after they ask him to a do some illegal spying on a politician. After that:
"Well if these people who are on the Light side tell me to do something illegal, the dark side must not be so bad."
His pregnant girlfriend even asks him if he thinks they are on the wrong team as supporters of the Republic lol
"What if the democracy we've been fighting for never actually existed?"
Pure mass culture kino with a moral message that actually makes sense
anyways going to save the rest of my thoughts for a 30 page critical essay jammed in the middle of my short story collection FEDBOOK, coming in spring 2021
