I began my journey to become a police officer shortly before Michael Brown’s death.
I studied policing in my undergrad as it happened and ever since then into my graduate classes.
I watched Obama’s response to these events and I’ve watched Trump’s the past four.
Nothing changed.
Obama mostly rebranded training police were already receiving and failed to reassure the public of the great work police do every day.
Trump failed to assist getting police any better training as well and failed to reassure the public of the great work police do every day.
I didn’t join this profession with an expectation of support from local, state, or national level politicians and I don’t have that expectation now. I will do this job for as long as I feel like I can provide help for my community with adequate equipment and training.
I will continue to bug my department to provide me with the tools to do my job and encourage them to bug the community leaders to support us in every way they can. I will do my best everyday to provide a positive image for police and show how great we are.
No President can change that. I don’t care if we elect Kanye West in 2024. I’m going to be out there doing my best with what I have. If you want to quit because Joe Biden was elected president, fucking do it. Don’t pretend like everyone that said they’d move to Canada in 2016.
