Just seen something I never thought I'd see: a prominent Christian pastor apologised for falsely prophesying about Trump winning 😳 Whilst spiritual integrity and accountability is crucial, it's so rare, so I really respect what he's done despite disagreeing with his past actions
Publicly apologising, taking accountability, and supporting Biden as President-Elect inspite of voting opposite, unprovoked, is not easy. It's baso unheard of (especially within the Church he's in 😬). So I think it speaks to a part of his character and I commend him
What I found very telling, however, was how many people were bashing him, instead of standing with him, telling him that the votes aren't final so his apology is premature bc of election fraud, etc. Instead of Christians encouraging this integrity, and welcoming his humility...
They were calling for arrogance and pride. Instead of recognising the principles and spiritual fruit behind his apology, they were projecting, trying to invoke the ugly heart of self-righteousness and white supremacy under the guise of 'waiting upon the Lord'. How saddening
What was even more heartbreaking was seeing an even more prominent leader use the same rhetoric as those people. I wasn't surprised that they did, but that doesn't mean I can't be disappointed. How can someone show spiritual integrity and you baso tell them 'not yet'??? I'm so
The way Black leaders and white leaders are reacting to this news is so polarised. For the most part, Black leaders are accepting the result (even if they don't wholly agree with, or didn't vote for, Biden). They're showing so much grace. Their white counterparts, mostly, are not
What's more, while Black leaders are encouraging everyone to respect the results and to accept them (rejecting this voter fraud nonsense), white leaders are literally doing the opposite, even opposing white leaders who aren't following their rhetoric! I'm so tired of this, man.
People keep talking about division, saying "both sides" are wrong (either politically or racially) but, honestly, I truly believe that there is a large false equivalence. White, conservative Christians genuinely have more to answer for than Black and/ or 'liberal' Christians. Fr.
There is no way, NO WAY, silencing those on the Right who are practising humility and grace in the immediate aftermath of the results counts as mere political ignorance. No. It's inexcusable spiritual violence. No party allegiance qualifies dampening another's spiritual integrity
If you wanna be a hater, be a hater. But to try to undo/ cast doubt on someone else's decision to apologise for erroneous prophecy, or their concession to the projected outcome is wrong. People are more dedicated to white evangelical ideals than spiritual integrity and it shows
