Seemed an appropriate evening for a bit of counting, so applied this to our District Nursing admission process on @TPP_SystmOne

122 clicks/double clicks

28 text boxes, BUT...

This is an absolute bare minimum, for an independent person who can look after themselves. 1/ https://twitter.com/doctorcaldwell/status/1195373521398050817
Once you add some nursing support, treatment or advice into the mix, those numbers rise significantly. Not fun if your laptop loses reception/freezes.

This could read like a good old fashioned moan about paperwork getting in the way of care, but the issue is more nuanced. 2/
There’s no doubt in my mind that we could use IT better and need to take a good hard look at what we write down and why (juicy research project right there)

But with all that data being pumped into patient records every day, you’d think evidencing what we do = piece of 🍰 3/
I’m seeing concerns from lots of experienced, highly regarded colleagues that the future of the DNSPQ is hanging in the balance @nmcnews. How did we get here?

Can’t help feeling that anyone with insight into this job can see the immense value a mile off. 4/
So it looks like we need to get much, much better at:

1. Crunching the data to evidence the number of people we help & our range of skills. Anyone heard anything about the NHS Community Services Data Set (CSDS) recently? 5/
2. Bigging up all the amazing things DNs do which will always be missed out of the hard data of direct patient contact (too many to list here).
