I see the reporting of the rise in cases moving in the wrong direction, and again, the narrative is flawed. Hang with me as I explain what’s going on. 1/9 https://twitter.com/NBCNews/status/1325068246769405952
We are experiencing a rise in the 7-day average of deaths overall, but this isn’t a 2nd wave. As you can see from the map, the cases and deaths are largely growing in the Midwest, where the 1st wave never finished. 2/9
You see, the virus was ripping through us long before we realized. How do I know? The WSJ traced cases back to as early as December and January. The redder it is, the more active the virus was. And it was VERY active by mid-February in many places. 3/9
When we closed down in March, the virus was peaking in many of the coastal states and TX. It seemed wise at the time to take 15 days to flatten the curve, but for some reason, the narrative changed and we started to believe this was the beginning of the pandemic, not peak. 4/9
But notice the states at the top, the ones that were hit hard and where you’re seeing lower death rates now – FL, TX, AZ, CA, NY, MA etc. Human intervention didn’t stop the virus, but simply a threshold was hit that led to natural protective immunity. 5/9
So, why are cases/deaths showing an uptick? Because the 1st wave is now finishing in the midwestern states (WI, IA, MN, WY, SD, ND, NE) that had not hit the peak with the coastal states in March, but followed the lockdown protocol of the coastal states. 6/9
Please notice these charts – the virus doesn’t seem to effect these states like the rest of the country in the spring, but is now bumping up a little bit. Like everywhere else, these states will slow down in a matter of weeks as they hit the threshold of protective immunity. 7/9
Final thoughts:
Please don’t let them confuse you with raw data. Our case levels are nowhere near where they were in Mar/Apr.
There also seems to be a decoupling of deaths and cases whether it’s from younger, healthier people getting it, “dry tinder” theory, or a... 8/9
...weakening virus. But the correlation is gone. 8/9
We are so solely obsessed with Covid cases and deaths that we haven’t noticed that “all cause” death trends are completely normal for this time of year.
Human intervention hasn’t stopped the virus anywhere in the world. 9/9
