Now is a good time to remind us that the evangelical movement is up for some long overdue payments.

If the last 4 years have done anything, it is to expose the movement as steeped, highly, in racism, bigotry, hate, profiteering, and grifting - all in the name of Jesus.
A few days ago, Pat Robertson claimed "the lord" had revealed to him that Trump would get a second term "without question", followed by mind-boggling civic disobedience and "trump derangement syndrome", and "two attempts on the president's life"
The other night Paula White was on TV, some man pacing up and down behind her, calling on "angels from Africa, Africa, Africa..." to come to the US to break the "demonic confederacy" (read: Black/Coloured/non-trump voters) that was conspiring to steal the election from Trump.
Evangelical leaders here have not been left behind, and have been on the forefront of supporting a president who called African countries "shithole", happy about funding cuts to Marie Stopes, and other family planning/ planned parenthood initiatives https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-54297372
Just two days ago, a big Bishop here appeared in the news saying he and others had been praying for Trump to win because he represented "good morals" in a nutshell - one wonders how a man who has repeatedly made racist remarks, misogynistic remarks, etc is a paragon of virtue
But closer home, such nuances have been lost in the dogmatic adherence to conspiracy that justify support for Trump. Many of our WhatsApp groups have members who spew these conspiracy theories without even thinking about where they come from.
The idea that democrats represent "socialism", "killing babies" and "ungodliness" through the "gay agenda" remain top-of-tongue for evangelically-leaning Kenyans. Never mind that under trump, black people have been killed indiscriminately, oppressed, marginalized.
Families have been torn part at the borders, immigrants threatened, anti-immigrant sentiment grown to very loud decibels, racism and bigotry promoted.
Heck, even the ambassador sent here by the trump admin has been appalling, crude, racist, dismissive, abusive and obnoxious.
Evangelically-leaning Kenyans have chosen to ignore these realities for some abstract harm, expressed in unclear and abstract ways. The humanity and love called for in the Gospels has been forgotten in the rhetoric, most of it, sorry to say, quite nonsensical.
And with Covid19 having forced many people to stop attending physical church, perhaps it is time for the local church here to drop the anti-intellectualism and nonsensical lenses, and start to take stock on a serious note.
These shenanigans of calling angels to interfere with
democratic processes is just that - nonsense.
One cannot rubbish a system that one's person used to gain power in the first place.
Wasn't Hillary Clinton in this very space 4 years ago? Did she not lose, quite spectacularly, to Trump? Was she not mocked, abused, derided
ad nauseum? At the time, evangelicals had their prophesies and etc, most of them misogynistic - and they seemed to fall in line with their desires at the time - to have access to power for their own gain, financial and otherwise.

This applies to local churches here that get
their funding from American churches.

This has to come under review, this blind allegiance to ideals that have nothing to do with faith.
