I’m gonna walk around my yard and see how many plants I can identify, a thread
Lambsquarters, a wild type of spinach. High in oxalic acid, just like normal spinach or beans, and very tasty. Grows tall, and flowers to buds that are a good substitute for broccoli or cauliflower. Edible, obviously.
Physalis angulata, one of my favorite plants!!! This one is also referred to as the cutleaf ground cherry, it is a nightshade that grows little berry lanterns, like tomatillos but much smaller. The berries are edible BUT NOT THE FOLIAGE. They taste like tomato and pineapple.
Mock strawberry, these are all over my backyard, and I really enjoy them. They are not the same as wild strawberries, the flowers are yellow instead of white, and they grow like a weed. You can eat the berries, but they taste of nothing and offer no real benefit.
Oh, a pleasant surprise. This is a muscadine grape vine in middle of my back yard 🤔 if you don’t know what a muscadine grape is, it’s one of the most common varieties that people eat. I don’t know how this one got here, but I’m happy it is :) (they are known to grow wild here)
Ran out of space on my last tweet, forgot what I was going to say, but here’s the grapevine!
Poison Ivy DO NOT FUCK WITH THIS
A.... wild tomato plant??? I found this behind an old shed just now. I don’t dump waste here. It has tiny leaves and itty bitty tomatoes????? I’m going to clone this......
OK, end of thread for now. I’ll do this again sometime.
