Had to kill the dd of my 128GB drive early so now I& #39;m starting it from scratch but including pv this time
23 minutes to dd 7% of the SD card. Gonna be a long wait until I can use my server again
I should also point out that I am a lead engineer and I had to Google the dd command for the correct syntax.

NEVER feel stupid with yourself if you need to use Google. No one expects you to know the syntax of all commands off the top of your head!
Just hit 10%. By my maths it will take 6 hours to fully image the drive https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="đŸ˜±" title="Vor Angst schreiendes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Vor Angst schreiendes Gesicht">
Should point out, I& #39;m using dd because it will be the easiest to recover from back to an sd card using the reverse if and of targets. I am aware most of the 128GB is empty space. the block size is 1M

Currently at 25% - should be finished in about 4 more hours I& #39;d say
The limiting factor is the SD card reader, which is annoying. My work MBP has more space for a direct to SSD dd instead of a dd from SD to an external HDD. However, there& #39;s no SD card reader on my work MBP& #39;s USB-C hub :-(
The dd is 50% complete. I& #39;d say about 3 hours remaining. 4 hours left on the time machine backup. 4 hours on the transfer from the laptop to the Time Capsule.

Guess I& #39;m staying up. Really pissed Apple pulled the SD card reader from the USB-C MacBook Pros
It is midnight.

dd is 70% complete. Probably be another hour.

Time Machine says it& #39;ll be done in an hour.

File transfer to the Time Capsule should be done in 2 hours
dd completed in 5:42 hours. The disk and image better sha the same or I& #39;ll be pissed - I forgot to unmount the drive, but the write protect notch was engaged and the SD card was not used.

Less than 20 mins for the time machine backup. No clue about the rsync
I FORGOT TO ENCRYPT THE FUCKING DRIVE. See, even lead engineers make complete and utter fuckups.

Lets hope I have the space available to copy the time machine backup and sd card backup
Whilst I& #39;m waiting for the sha2sum of both the disk and the dd& #39;d image, I& #39;m pbzip2& #39;ing the image to compress it down.

There& #39;s about 16GB of actual data on the 128GB image so it should compress nicely.

pbzip2 is better than gzip because it runs in parallel maxing out CPU cores
This would have been so much easier on my work MBP if the damn thing had an SD card reader in the dongle. Don& #39;t think I have one here / can& #39;t find it, so I& #39;m stuck with a 2013 MBP maxing out it& #39;s 4 threads doing a pbzip2
I& #39;m calling this thread "The saga of the backups". All I want is a cold store of our wedding photos and video, a point in time snapshot of my 2013 MBP, and a point in time snapshot of my Raspberry Pi& #39;s SD card.

Why is this so hard?!
The reason for this is that I& #39;m using an old 3TB Time Capsule to backup my personal MBP (the 13 inch from 2013). I want a cold store of certain things because at some point in time the TC drive will die and I don& #39;t want to loose my wedding photos. The PIT snapshots are for safety
