Dr. Minnis squandered the largest parliamentary majority in the history of the Bahamas. He had a clear and decisive mandate and failed to honor his promises. Increased taxes after saying that taxing was the lazy way out, not to mention he oversaw the dismissal (firing) of more than 2,500 Bahamians primarily because of their political affiliation. His administration increased economic inequity, a sitting cabinet minister received more-
than 53 million dollars in contracts and now threatens to take hold of our natural resources with the Andros deal. He has been less than transparent with deals that came before Cabinet (OBAN, Grand Lucayan)
Not a single solitary public works project has been completed under this administration (the Southern Recreation park has been under construction since 2017). We’ve seen alarming breakdowns in labor relations; junior doctors, nurses, teachers all dissatisfied.
Then there are problems which he met in place which he failed to address; our crumbling gelatin infrastructure and inadequate educational infrastructure that underserves the vast majority of our children.
Over the last three years we’ve heard a lot of talk but little action- no freedom of information act, no catastrophic health care plan, no real over-the-hulk redevelopment. There’s been little progress generally.
Dr. Minnis was dealt some very unfortunate hands with Hurricane Dorian and COVID-19 but that’s a consequence of the job. Leadership requires us to rise to the occasion. It’s why we elected him and let’s be honest both crisis’ were mismanaged.
To conclude, ask the ordinary man or woman who raised placards and flags in 2017 and ‘roc’d with doc’ if they still believe if it’s their time. Truth is from 2017 to now they’ve showed us that it was never the people’s time.
