I really don’t like talking about politics. But even politics aside, Trump is a terrible person and I’m glad he’s on the way out.
I believe many people who support trump are also terrible people. And I also believe that some who vote for trump are decent people who are misguided. So to those people, I really hope we can start to bridge the divide and start unifying again. Tribalism will destroy the US.
I can’t speak to how effective Biden will be as president. I won’t offer my opinion on policy because frankly, my opinion carries no weight. I’m just an artist. But I think that another 4 years of trump would have only served to poison the relations among citizens even further.
I would like to believe that the *majority* of people who vote for trump are decent people. I live in a red state and I know a lot of people (even friends) who probably voted for trump with good intentions.
The problem I have with most political discourse on the internet is that people want to paint with a broad brush. People are complex. Their thoughts and ideas are complex, and their circumstances are greatly varied. We’re all surrounded by different influences.
I think we as humans desire to simplify everything. We want to categorize. And I’m sure by tweeting about this at all, people will begin to categorize me and then dismiss or embrace me depending on their perception of my position. All I want is for communication to happen.
Having grown up in an extremely conservative environment, but having many friends who are extremely liberal, I often feel like I’m alone in trying to consider both sides fairly. I think it’s dangerous for anyone to only consider perspectives that align perfectly with their own.
And I think today will be the last time I tweet about politics for a loooooooong while. It’s back to polygons, pixels, and other nonsense for me.
