The defeat of Trump is a huge victory for many—including my family, even though we are Canadian. When we were adopting our son in Japan in 2018, OUR govt caved to Trump’s pressure, stranding us abroad, their only official explanation being a referral to a US DOS website.

We had the fight of our lives to get Hiro home (and many of you in the kid lit community helped), but it was a battle we should have never had to face. Racism is still alive and well, but at least, now, it doesn’t have the same fan blowing on its flames.

In case it isn't obvious, it is a VERY emotional day for our household.
