In July 2010, I sneaked into a fundraiser for Vice President @JoeBiden. I was a college student & couldn’t afford the ticket price but I knew a bunch of Party leaders who were working the door. I snagged a place at the end of the receiving line with @matthughesnc.

The VP was running behind schedule so his Secret Service agents and staffers tried to prompt him to make a quick exit but I took my chance by interrupting that from happening. #JoeBiden #Biden

When Vice President @JoeBiden stopped to listen to me, I told him of my grassroots campaign for a seat on the Wake County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors & of my vision for a more environmentally sustainable future. He smiled & asked me my age. #Biden

When I inquired if he was asking because he thought I was too young, @JoeBiden chuckled and told me of his experience running for office at a young age. He took my business card. He hugged me and said he was proud of me for taking the initiative to do “big things.”

As y’all know, I went on to win that race (and three more after), making history as the youngest woman ever elected to political office in North Carolina.

Less than a year later, I received a call from Secret Service informing me @JoeBiden was coming back to Raleigh and asking me to drive in the Vice Presidential motorcade.

Nine years later, I was asked to serve on the State Leadership Council of OUT for Biden.

Although I was unable to overcome an entrenched Republican incumbent in my race, I’m hopeful for the future of this country knowing @JoeBiden will be our next President. This man embodies integrity, is a shining beacon of character, exudes empathy, & has a of pure gold.
