He told his supporters that mail-in ballots were a source of fraud because he was listening to Fox.

The actual impact of Trump taking Fox's advice, particularly wrt the coronavirus, proved devastating for the country.

But as political counselors, they failed him.

Fox is a megaphone for the GOP base. Its programming motivates conservative Republicans. But what gets conservative Republicans to tune in to watch TV is not a majoritarian message!

The GOP is a minoritarian party that can win power because of the country's anti-democratic institutions, and so it's plausible to be able to win by pushing a Fox message. But this time, at least, it didn't work.
