Philly city hall all beeps and cheers after the Biden/Harris win, one girl was standing up in the sunroof cheering

a lot of people have spontaneously turned up outside the Philly convention center where there has been a party for days but some confusion because there isn’t a planned count the votes rally today so the only speaker is from the Trump rally across the street

the Biden supporters outside the Philly convention center may not have a speaker but they are chanting “this is what democracy looks like” and “Trump has got to go”

“i was crying earlier, i was so overwhelmed,” Sharonda Mcgirt told me, thrilled about Biden’s win. “Because i feel that he’s going to listen to the scientists, they’re going to try and get together a vaccine for this virus and he’s going to be equal with all races.”

“i knew Philly was gonna kick butt” Sharonda Mcgirt told me. Trump needs “to take a chill pill. admit that you lost and move on. move on! time to go. G. O” she said.

Pooja Agarwal has been volunteering for the Biden/Harris campaign and brought her two kids to the victory party “The first female president is a mixed race Indian woman and our children are mixed race Indian and they can see themselves in the White House now. That’s so exciting.”

“Trump is a disgrace and a threat to our whole democracy and i just couldn’t stand by and not do anything to get him out of power,” Pooja, who’s been canvassing and donating. “ it’s really nice to see the work paid off and philly gets its moment to save the day.”

just spoke with 84-year-old Toni Alperin Goldberg who is wearing a Scranton sign around her neck with the words “home of our president Biden, hallelujah” and a picture of her and Biden together. “i’m feeling marvelous today,” she told me”

Broad St in a very cheerful celebratory mood — people taking photos of each other, wrapped in rainbow and Biden flags, and cheering lots. so far no one climbing a light pole but it’s only 2:25pm

as the crowd passed the Philly convention center — where the votes have been counted the last five days — a chant of “Black Lives Matter” began. there are thousands of people now marching together in celebration around Philly

as the crowd went along the side of the Philly convention side a “fuck donald trump” chant happened

lots of cheers as we pass a USPS van. “he delivered for us!!!” someone yelled

the Broad St crowd has marched back to the original spot of the count every vote rally outside the Philly convention center, which is an odd choice as there is still a small Trump rally here and they are the only side with a speaker!

Peter Puthenveetil works in emerg medicine and said the Biden win makes him feel “optimistic for the first time in a long time,” for a president with “a belief in science and facts. somebody with a belief in scientists and doctors and professionals who know what they’re doing.”

Peter is TRIPLE masked and said several friends and coworkers have been hospitalized with covid. he is a hopeful for a national covid response under Biden —“a belief in masking, in distancing, in washing your hands — consistent messaging and coordination amongst the states.”
