My biggest takeaway from this election: When you make voting easier, Democrats tend to do better.

I really hope ppl understand this basic fact bc it was/is the key to the 2020 election. The extension of mail-in ballots allowed the turnout to be the highest we’ve seen in decades
Republicans knew this all along. They know that higher percentage of Democratic voters live in urban areas. This is why they CONSTANTLY engage in LEGALIZED voter suppression: Voter ID laws, Closing Polling Locations, Restricting Absentee ballots & so on.
This IS a legacy of white supremacy. 3/5 of enslaved ppl were counted for representation purposes but could not vote for 80yrs. Then Jim Crow deeply limited black ppl voting in the south another 100yrs. Meanwhile, Black ppl were FORCED to move to urban areas for safety, jobs, etc
The fact that Trump is literally filing lawsuits and stoking his radical supporters to THROW OUT the votes of large numbers of Black & brown ppl is not something new!! It’s a continuation of what America has done since it’s inception.
The pandemic gave a reasonable excuse for states to extend their vote by mail options & NORMALIZE voting early. Yes, we need to give Americans a reason to vote, but we also need to make voting easier, especially for BIPOC.
Addendum: pls don’t talk to be about the increase black vote for Trump when y’all know damn well that the VAST majority of Black folk voted for Biden. I won’t even engage in that discussion right now.
