Restaurant owner and author Melissa Martin talks about her new cook book Mosquito Supper Club and the inspiration behind it. Martin owns a successful restaurant in New Orleans and shares some recipes with us. @texasbookfest #txbookfest #mc1313gdm http://www.mosquitosupperclub.com/cookbook
Melissa is going to share her recipe for her sweet potato biscuits. This recipe is featured in her cook book and also in her restaurant. All ingredients Martin uses are sourced from local farms.
Her restaurant is located in downtown New Orleans and opened up 7 years ago. Martin emphasizes that she likes to have family style seating at her restaurant. Pre COVID she placed her customers at large tables for the at home dinner feeling.
Being that her restaurant is in Louisiana she has been affected by the string of recent hurricanes. Martin lost power and a generous amount of food and supplies spoiled. Martin says she wanted to base the recipes in her book off of foods she grew up eating.
Martins cook book is mainly seafood focused around crab, shrimp and crawfish. She grew up in Chauvin, Louisiana in a fishing family that worked very hard for the food they put on the table. Martin says her book is an extension from her family to the families of all readers.
"Thank yall for letting me read from my book" Martins says. This was the first time she has been able to read from her book since the pandemic began. "I hope to see yall one day at the restaurant" Martins says.
That will conclude my thread. Thank you to those who tuned in and followed along with me today.
