I was lucky enough to attend the biggest festival in France last year 2019, this year is cancelled due to Coronavirus (covid-19).
Bayonne is located near of Biarritz in the Basque Country, on the border of Spain, in the southwestern corner of France. As a Spanish and French cultures meet, this territory of France is peculiar, creating a unique combination of the food and traditions of the two countries.
The biggest festival in France (Les Fêtes de Bayonne) happens every year on the last weekend of July before August. Since 1932, the festival has been held annually and has been called off only once during World War II from 1940 - 1944.
Initially, it was planned by a group of rugby fellow players and friends.
The festival starts with a celebration on Wednesday night at 10 pm, lasts 5 days until Sunday. King Leon officially opens the festival on Wednesday evening, after the first day of the celebrations.
The King is joined by the rest of his team the next day: six puppets that display the festival& #39;s customs and history. These representations are also in the shape of six huge puppets that enter the festival& #39;s parade that awakens King Leon every day.
