Being married in community of property means you share your property in equal shares 50/50. This is common knowledge but I don& #39;t want to assume
That woman u lobola& #39;d and left without a formal divorce may approach the court after many years to claim half of whatever you own. Even if after the break up u have acquired new properties / money / belongings ..she has a claim over them. She owns half of your stuff

All this is in terms of the Recognition of Customary Marriages Act.

In community of property divorces are capable of literally killing someone with anxiety and stress.

Before you pay lobola, please consider approaching a lawyer ( notary) to advice on different marriage regimes ..then the drafting of an ante-nuptial contract (ANC).
Please note not all attorneys are qualified notaries. Don& #39;t pay a lawyer who isn& #39;t a qualified notary for an ANC

Currently "in community of property" is the default setting and many people are not aware
I have written to Parliament, dpt of Justice, tweeted honourable Minister @RonaldLamola multiple times ..to please change default setting to "out of community of property"
