What’s so alluring about conspiracy theories is that they usually make you feel like Sherlock Holmes. You’re an investigator uncovering all this secret knowledge that normal people (“normies”) don’t see. It becomes an adventure.
But the reality is truth & facts are much more boring. Usually truth and facts are much simpler and easily accessible - though not always. Conspiracy also makes you feel like you’re in control because you have answers for things that seemed unexplainable.
It’s very easy to get caught up in conspiracy theories - esp in this Information Age of 4chan, 8chan, fringe YouTube documentaries, etc. it’s important to understand how to research credible sources and verify information from vetted people and places.
If we are Christians then we claim to be committed to the TRUTH - indeed our God is the source of all TRUTH. If this is the case then we can’t be so easily naive and susceptible to false conspiracy theories. We have to be people of rigorous research and commitment to truth.
We have to be folks of moral and intellectual integrity. But that requires vetting and verifying information when it comes to truth. Some conspiracy has been real (Iran contra, La Cosa Nostra, Watergate, Epstein’s actions, etc) but not without empirical proof and clear evidence
Remember “extraordinary accusations require extraordinary evidence.” If you don’t have clear empirical proof of the latter then you probably shouldn’t be doing the former.
The sad part is that Christians have shown to be the most susceptible to false conspiracy theories. What does this actually say about our commitment to the truth?

We have a whole episode about christians and conspiracy theories on @SouthsideRabbi - peep! https://bit.ly/3k7es6p
