This may be an unpopular opinion but we heard a lot about white people collecting their racist relatives four years ago and... I don’t think that did a lot.

White people, ignore your racist relatives. Stop centering their concerns. Stop acting like fixing them is the solution.
Put your time and effort into communities of color.

It’s time to stop acting like racists are the key—either centering them or shaming them.

They aren’t.
Sometimes people act up because they want attention, and giving them attention reinforces the behavior.

I don’t want to hear about the three racist coal miners. Talk to me about the five Black coal miners.
Stop centering the same people over and over again when there’s a hell of a lot of stories to be told about the people who are going to take us forward into a better future.
Start talking about who you’re going to do the work against, and start talking about who you’re going to do the work for.
Stop trying to change their minds and start trying to change the impacts of their actions.

The best way to collect your racist relatives is to beat them at the polls and help marginalized communities flourish.
I’m not saying acquiesce to them. I’m not saying play nice.

I’m just saying stop trying to change their minds and use your energy to help the people survive this pandemic who we most need with us in the coming years.
If you have to talk to them, “Racist Grandma, this year for Christmas I made a donation in your name to Fair Fight” should cover it.
“Racist Aunt, this year I sent money to a charity in Georgia that’s going to make sure that poor kids are getting enough to eat.“
P.S. This is not permission for you to work less. Work more. And be strategic.
