#bkdk with tsundere!baku (mild angst with a happy ending!)

Katsuki had never found it easy to express his love or fondness for other people. Telling someone he liked them made him vulnerable, so it was always easiest to just keep them at an arms length.
Of course, he didn’t like a lot of people to begin with, all the other extras were just too aggravating and overall unimportant, especially Deku.

But, over the years, Deku became... less aggravating. His smiles actually made Katsuki happy, his laughter made his stomach-
-flutter, his usual cries of “Kacchan!” made his heart skip a beat. He /liked/ Deku, and at that point, it was shocking, but easy to accept. It just made sense...

So, of course, the two started dating right after graduation. Katsuki was the one to ask him out, or, well-
-he demanded that Deku be his boyfriend and live with him, and the nerd said yes.

Katsuki never considered himself to be a touchy person, and he didn’t like being touched, so he wasn’t super physically affectionate with Deku. And he still insulted him a lot, but-
-he did it with fondness. He was an idiot, but he was Katsuki’s idiot. He was a damn nerd, but he was Katsuki’s damn nerd. He was a little shit, but he was Katsuki’s little shit. Even though he cursed and insulted Deku, he knew his boyfriend knew that Katsuki loved him.
Or, at least, that’s what he thought anyways... his and Deku’s relationship was special, Deku could tell what he was thinking without him even having to say it out loud...

“So, Bakubro!” Kirishima asked him one night while he and the rest of the idiot squad were out-
-for drinks. It was difficult with them all being heroes now, with such chaotic and busy schedules, but they all found a way, and Katsuki was secretly appreciative of it. “How is living with Midoriya going?”

“How the fuck do you think?” he asked, giving his friend an annoyed-
-scowl.

“Still so unfriendly,” Sero sighed while shaking his head.

“Yeah man, can’t you ever say something nice?” Mina asked with a pout.

“/I/ ain’t nice,” he snapped at them with a roll of his eyes.

“Can’t you at least /try/?” Kaminari asked with a whine.
“Seriously dude, Midoriya’s gonna leave you if all you do is insult him,” he warned.

“Hah!? The fuck’re you talkin’ about?” he asked angrily, his grip tightening around his cup of beer.

“When was the last time you told him you love him?” Mina asked, resting her chin in-
-the palm of her hand. “And I mean using those /exact/ words, ‘I love you.’”

Katsuki opened his mouth to respond, but slowly closed it when he realized.... he didn’t think he’d /ever/ told Deku he loved him. But he was sure the nerd knew he did, he couldn’t /not/ know.
“Eh, I dunno if that’s fair,” Kirishima interrupted. “Bakugou’s the type of guy to show his feelings through actions instead of words.”

“Mm, that’s true,” Sero conceded as the others nodded. “But still, it’s nice to hear it once in a while, y’know?”
“Yeah, wouldn’t want Mido to feel unloved,” Mina said, looking down into her glass. “I saw he had changed his hair, and I asked about it, he said that you didn’t like it, so he changed it.”

Katsuki blinked in surprise. He remembered the other day when Deku-
-came home with his hair short and the underside shaved. It looked good, really good, what had he said in response?

Oh yeah, he said “bout fucking time you did something with that rats nest of hair you have.” ... he had meant it as a good thing, that he liked the new look, but..
He could vaguely remember seeing Deku’s face fall, before he forced a smile back in place.

“Deku’s knows what I mean,” he said. He had to, right?

“Are you sure?” Sero asked gently. “I mean, I know you and Mido are closer than any of us, but, he’s also a little sensitive.”
Tch, yeah he was sensitive. He cried so easily, but it was kinda cute, and he berated him for being such a cry baby. But it was done with fondness! Surely, surely Deku knew...

“Here, when’s the last time you complimented him without being a tsundere?” Kaminari asked, earning-
-a light chuckle from the rest of the group. Bakugou didn’t have an answer, and that pissed him off. He dug out his wallet, slammed a few hundred yen down, and stormed out, the cold air biting at his face as he shoved his hands in his pockets.
What did those damn extras know? His and Deku’s relationship was special, even when Katsuki said mean things, he knew what he truly meant. He had to know... he new his words could hurt, but, Deku knew what he really meant, it felt like the nerd knew him-
-even better than Katsuki knew himself...

But Deku also had a habit of overthinking. If Katsuki just kept treating him the same as before they started dating, Deku might start doubting the blond’s feelings for him... they might break up, what if...
Katsuki stopped, clenching his hands tighter in his pockets. His heart was pounding in his chest at even the thought of Deku wanting to break up with him... he couldn’t have that happen, he just couldn’t!
He always did have a hard time expressing himself, but, he needed Deku to know how he felt.

He raced back to their apartment, the cold air biting at his skin as he ran down the sidewalks, not stopping until he got home.

He burst into their apartment with a loud-
-bang, breathing heavily as he slammed the door shut and called out to his boyfriend.

“Deku!” he yelled as Deku came out of their bedroom, looking disheveled and surprised.

“K-Kacchan!” he exclaimed as the blond walked over. “You’re back early! I thought that-!”
He stopped mid-sentence as Katsuki wrapped his arms around him, holding him tightly against his chest as he buried his face in the shorter males hand. He could feel Deku pause a moment before wrapping returning the embrace, his movements unsure and confused.
“Kacchan?” he asked when Katsuki finally pulled back. “Is everything alright?”

“Yeah, I just,” he paused as his voice cracked, feeling as if the words were getting stuck in his throat. No, he had to do this, he needed to! “I-I have something to tell you.”
“Alright?” Deku asked, his brows raised in confusion.

“I love you, Deku,” he said, making the male’s green eyes widen in surprise. “I love you, so fucking much. And I know I don’t say it enough, or at all, but I fucking love you. I-I think you’re gorgeous, and I like when-
-you smile and laugh, or when you show me something that makes you happy. I love when you mutter to yourself, I love your shitty, stupid sense of fashion, I love your crooked fingers and your fluffy hair. A-and I know I don’t say it enough, it’s hard for me, but I don’t-
-ever want to make you feel as if I don’t appreciate you, or as if I don’t love you, o-or that you’re not good enough. I don’t ever want you to have any doubts about me, about us. I want you to know that you mean the world to me, even if I’m always a fucking asshole.”
Silence reigned after he finished speaking, or maybe he couldn’t hear anything over the blood pounding in his ears. We’re his palms always this sweaty? Why wasn’t Deku saying anything?

“K-Kacchan,” he choked out, his eyes, predictably, wet with tears. He started sniffling-
-as tears fell down his face while he tried in vain to wipe them away. Shit, he fucked up, what did he do now?

“Deku, I-I’m sorry I-“

“No,” he shook his head rapidly, looking at Katsuki through his tears. “K-Kacchan, I-I’m so, s-so happy,” he sobbed, throwing his-
-arms around his neck. As Deku sobbed, Katsuki held up his weight, carrying him to the couch and sitting down as he pulled him into his lap.

“Geez, you’re fucking heavy for such a small nerd,” he mumbled without thinking, making Deku laugh wetly through his tears.
“S-sorry,” he laughed, looking up at him, his lashes stuck together with his tears.

“Don’t apologize,” Katsuki answered quickly, cupping his face as he brushed a tear away with his thumb. “Don’t ever apologize for how you are, okay?”
“Then, you too,” Deku replied quietly, reaching his hand up to cup Katsuki’s face. “You are the way you are, and I love you.”

“But, I want to make you,” he said quickly, before pausing as his face heated up. “I, you deserve to know how amazing you are, okay?”
“Hmm,” Deku hummed, his eyes crinkling in the corners as he smiled. “Okay, Kacchan.”
