A short thread on #BookshopDotOrg UK as I am seeing some regular questions on my TL. I do not work for @Bookshop_Org but I am an affiliate bookshop user.

The BEST way to support an independent bookshop is to buy from them directly. Always.

DM me to order books right here.
If your chosen indie doesn't appear to offer that service during lockdown - contact them and ask. Chances are they have a way to get to books to you and they need the orders more than ever.
If you already shop directly with an indie you could share their #BookshopDotOrg link with your friends and fam. Lots of us are looking to #shopsmallbusiness this year and this is an easy way to make a big difference with a small swap.
Hive is still active but the commission is WAY less so let's state this clearly - #BookshopDotOrg is MUCH MORE beneficial to the indie affiliates than Hive, but Hive is still preferable to Other Online Retailers Who Do Not Support Bookshops and Want to Kill Them.
For Authors and non-bookshop affiliates; many have asked if they can nominate a bookshop to get their commissions - I hope #BookshopDotOrg consider adding this function but at the moment that is not in place.
If you're feeling torn about becoming an affiliate because you don't want to effectively compete with Indies then here are a few suggestions.
1. Ask an indie for THEIR affiliate links to your books and share those.
2. Ask a bookshop to let you curate a list for them, then share that link on your socials.
3. Share lists curated by bookshops that you like, and that your books feature on, and share them widely.
You can do all of these things and still have your own Bookshop affiliate account. Bookshops don't expect donations. Bookshops LOVE collaborations.
Hope that's helpful and just to reiterate - it's just another string to our bow - if it works for you, then it works for us. Find a way to make it work for you that you're comfortable with. Here's my shop. Bye! (buy?)
